2010 Year of the Tiger

The Morikami Museum in Delray, Florida celebrates the New Year festivities with traditional Japanese food and entertainment.
The Tiger represents the third year in the 12 year cycle of the zodiac. The year 2010 is your year and you are a Tiger if you will be 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, or 96 years old. The tiger is one of the most dynamic signs of the zodiac. They are dependable, unpredictable, fearless, tender, and loving. They love to pack up and travel to some far-flung exotic destination. They have a primal desire for adventure and first-hand experience of life.

Jury Duty....book 'em Danno....

Well you have to be pretty old and have watched Hawaii Five-0 to recognize that phrase. I just came home for a lunch break. I've been down at the courthouse since 7:30 am to make sure I got a parking space. They said all jurors numbered 1 through 350 had to come in. There weren't 350 people there so they must skip some numbers. My number was in the high 200's so I had to go. They picked three groups for cases and then I guess the plea deal did not go through so there was a fourth...and my name was called. Marsha Ewing is the Clerk for the Circuit Court of Martin County and she has a great sense of humor. I'm going back now and if I am picked to stay I can't tell you anymore than it's a Criminal case and we are lucky to have Judge Levins. Our town is so small and our newpaper must be all of twelve pages...who knew we had four criminals? Talk to you later...but NOT about this.

I'm back. I didn't get selected for the jury...thank goodness. The case was very sad. I'm worried about the youth of our country.

Thanksgiving Day

I have some great friends who invited me to share their day of thanks at the Pirate's Cove Resort. Their father owned the land when it was just waterfront land. They reminisced about the good old days. The photos above show the view from the restaurant. The photos below are of the Dock Master downstairs, the sign that shows who caught what, and Jack, Bones, & Dave. I forgot how beautiful it is here......thank you!

Wearable Art Finery at the Houston International Quilt Festival

The "Belles" of Houston ... that's what I call them. They always show up in their finery. I made sure to get a photo of their fronts and backs. Whew...they've been busy.
They are members of the Houston ASG.

The Houston International Quilt Festival 2009

This art quilt blew me away. Eveything about it was/is awesome. I am so upset that I didn't get the artists name. If you know who the artist is, please let me know and I will add it to this blog. The artist certainly deserves to be known. In fact, I was going to hold this photo for a future blog post...but I can't wait! I'll be adding more photos soon...but I love this one.

Secret Artist Society creates the Sea Glass Slice Quilt for the World Quilt Show - Florida

Here's a great art quilt created by Stuart, Hobe Sound, and Jensen Beach quilt artists. These artists meet to do workshops where they teach/learn new techniques. For this work they selected a photograph and cut it in equal vertical slices. Each artist took a "slice" and created her own interpretation through surface design and quilting. They worked separately and came together with a masterpiece. Click on the image to the right for more details!

Need beautiful Japanese fabrics and gifts?

Pat and Paul Maeda own Maeda Importing and they specialize in Japanese textiles, Sashiko patterns and kits, books, gifts, patterns, kimono, and MORE. You can find them at the Road to California quilt show, Paducah, Quilts Inc. shows, and Mancuso Quilt Shows. They travel all over the country and love what they do. Stop by their booth and they'll talk about fabric, food, and Japan. They have really funny stories. It's been a while since I've seen them and it was good to see them at the World Quilt Show-Florida, West Palm Beach. Next years dates have been set for November 12-14, 2010. Hope I see them before then! Mahalo.
